GK+4 (REDS)
4 attacking players (Grays) pressing in a box
2 gates (goals) 10 yards apart
Box of 10x10 ( Just outside the D) -
Explanation:
Grays start in 10x10 box with all balls located there too. Reds are coached to build out of the back sticking to the principles of playing around, through or over the opposition pressure. The objective of the REDS is to play through the gates in the wide areas. Poles/ gates can be replaced with small goals. The coach will serve the ball from inside the box and The reds are coached to push up and then drop back looking for visual triggers on when to drop to receive the ball. As soon as ball is over the line, Grays can pressure as a 7,9,10,11. Grays are managed with timed countdowns to attack goal quickly and regains to keep realism throughout the session. Reds are coached to play the ball around, through or over to then dribble through the gates for 2 points.

Organization:
11v11 Half field Dimensions (Full width)
9 poles (Or large cones) set up in a 4-3-2 formation (missing GK and #9)
6x4 min blocks (Physical loading) 1min rest in between blocks of work
Block 1 and 2 - unopposed
Block 3 and 4 - opposed
Explanation
Play starts from the middle (typically a 6 position) with 1 player on a pole and the rest both sides of the starting position as shown. 2 balls served into the CB's who are coached to receive on the back foot and play to the Full back (Outside Back) on their side. Upon receiving the ball on the outside, OB then looks to connect with the 9 encouraging players to play furthest player forward when possible. 9 then bounces a pass of the CM to then dribble to the starting point. Players then rotate clockwise. Block 1 and 2 is UNOPPOSED and the technical coaching here needs to be emphasized heavily throughout this period of the session. Players are challenged to play 2 touch on receiving the ball to ensure match realism and to prepare them for the opposed part of the practice.
Coaching detail:
MUST receive with open body shape to play forward (back foot encouraged)
Can we see 3 corners of the field when we are preparing to receive the ball?
Sharp passing tempo - demand off your teammates
challenge players to 'pass ball pass information' (Time, turn, I'm open etc,)
Play the next pass in front of the player so they don't need to break strides (crisp on the floor to their preferred foot
Receiving the ball - body in line with ball - can we see 3 corners still
Bring foot back upon impact of the ball - relax
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
- two touch
- play to back foot
- Add in time countdown to get around - race against the two sides for fun challenge
