Organisation:
10 x 10 yd area.
Players split into two teams.
One cone at one corner (attackers start point)
2 cones 5 yards apart at the other end (goal)
Instructions:
Play 1 v 1 with attacker attempting to run through the gate whilst defender attempts to tag the attacker.
The attacker has 5 seconds to get through the goal.
Swap roles.
Progression:
Add a football or the attacker to dribble.
Coaching points:
Body shape side on to be able to change direction quickly.
Change of speed & direction to block attackers line.
Awareness of attackers movements

Organisation:
Area 20 x 20 yds
2 cones 5 yards apart in each corner.
Players split into 4 groups.
Balls.
Instruction:
Defender (White) passes the ball to Attacker (Green).
Attacker attempts to score by dribbling through any of the gates on the Defender’s line.
Defending player attempts to win possession of the ball to score by dribbling through the gates on the Attackers line.
Players swap roles.
Progression:
Play 2 v 2.
Coaching points:
Speed of approach & angle when closing down
Slow down the last yard & be ready for any quick moves or tricks by opponent
Body shape - angled & use of arms for balance/blocking
Jockeying to show defenders one way
Acceleration to close down
Deceleration to slow down when approaching defender
Balance & proprioception to be in a position to challenge for the ball
Feet & hip coordination

Organisation:
Set up area as shown.
Split players into two groups.
Group A will start asdefenders Group B will start as attackers.
Have plenty of balls available.
Instructions:
A passes to B,
B attempts to dribble past A and shoot at goal.
Rotate positions after each player has had a couple of attempts at position A / B
Progressions:
1- Attacker receives the ball with his back to the defender ad goal. The defender attempts to prevent the attacker from turning and getting an attempt on goal.
2- Add an extra defender and attacker and play 2v2 with session and progression 1.
3- Stretch playing area out to red cones / width of playing area and play 3v3. Attackers can use the waiting players at the end of the area as bounce players.
Coaching points:
Close attacker down as the ball travels / Quick early pressure
Controlled approach / slow down judge the distance
Show attacker on to weaker foot
Body position side on
Recovery.

Orgabisation:
Pitch 60x40 with goal and GK’s at each end.
Instructions:
Free play with players encouraged to work on defensive coaching points.
Coaching points:
earest defender to ball presses
Covering defenders take position from the 1st defender and ensures they can see ball and other attackers
Communication between defenders and GK
Ensure defensive shape offers pressure on the ball, cover of pressing defenders and balance off the rest of the pitch to provide a compact defensive shape
Defensive screen to prevent opposition through balls breaking defensive lines.

Instruction:
On coaches whistle the attacker has 20 seconds and 1 change of direction to lose the defender and run out of the area. Defender attempts to tag attacker before leaves the area.
Swap roles.
Progression:
Allow attacker 2 changes of direction.
Add a footballl for the attacker to dribble.
Coaching points:
Touch tight to attackers.
Body position to be able to change direction quickly.
Change of speed & direction to block attackers line.
