Arrival Activity (10 mins)

Set up 2 or 3 small pitches. No goals.

As players arrive filter them into teams and play a possession game where they score 1 point for every 5 successful passes in succession.

Award bonus points for 3rd line passes

Simple passing in pairs (All) (15 mins)

Put players into pairs. 1 ball per pair. One pair per each set of cones.

Simple passing and receiving drill.

Varition 1.

Straight forward passing and receiving. Pass to each other through the middle gate. Size of gate may vary depending on difficulty. Can you play a first time pass?

Variation 2.

Recieve ball on right foot. First touch takes the ball past the cone. Pass to teammate on left foot. Alternate direction after a couple of minutes.

Variation 3.

Pass the ball in a figure of 8 rotation. Recieve the ball with one foot, first ntouch past the cone, pass with opposite foot.

Coaching points:

Proper passing technique using inside of foot.

Passing accuracy.

Weight of pass.

Receiving technique.

First touch out of feet.

Progression:

Vary the distance between the cones.

Passing Y (Half players) (10 mins)

Simple passing Y.

Ball starts on the outside.

Ball is played to the centre player.

Passing player follows his pass.

Outside player always passes to centre player.

Coaching points:

Proper passing technique using inside of foot.

Passing accuracy.

Weight of pass.

Receiving technique.

Receive ball on back foot.

Should be stood side-on.

First touch out of feet.

Progression:

Central player stays in the middle and plays 1-2 with outside passing player who then passes to another outside player and follows his pass.

Vary the size of he Y.

6 Cone Passing

Simple 6 Cone passing drill.

Can be varied depending on number of players. There should always 1 more player than cones.

The ball starts at the cone with 2 players.

Players follow their pass.

Coaching points:

Proper passing technique using inside of foot.

Passing accuracy.

Weight of pass.

Receiving technique.

Receive ball on back foot.

Should be stood side-on.

First touch out of feet.

Progression:

Players play a 1-2-1 pass.
