The session: Big Box, Little Box
1 minute rest every 4 minutes
Rotate the passer and receiver every 2 minutes
Tempo should be high during each 4 minutes of work
Set challenges - i.e. number of passes within a minute
Encourage lots of water during 2 minute rests
3 x 4 minute segments
15 minute session in total
Work off 6x6 for each player in the middle. For example, if 6 in the middle then 6 x 6x6 = 36 x 36
Middle square should be about 6 x 6
Set up:
- Players on the outside serve the ball in to the players on the inside (moving towards the ball).
- Players on the inside return the ball to the server and then move off through the middle box and get a ball off a different server.
- Rotate server/receiver after 2 minutes.
- Touches can include: side foot pass, two touch and one touch, chest, thigh, headers (attacking/Defending)
Key messages:
- Quality of first touch (set in position you want to go)
- Angle to receive (see as much as you can)
- Check shoulder
- Don't close the space from the server
- Communication

- Different types of passes as mentioned above.
- Add passive defenders to drift throughout and make it more realistic for attackers.

THE SESSION:
- Two groups of players.
- The RED player dribbles, completes a skill and shoots at goal
- The BLUE player then dribbles and plays a one-two with the RED player to score
- Next player goes (switch teams after 2 minutes)

PROGRESSION:
– Take out one two and the player who dribbles becomes defender
– players can use disguise to pretend to pass
but dribble themselves to shoot

THE SESSION:
Wide player (1) starts the practice by dribbling to beat the manniquin and crossing for players (a) and (b) who have made runs into the penalty area.
As soon as this phase has finished one player either (a) or (b) turn to recive a pass off server (orange) to finish in the opposite goal
Repeat the practice on the other side.
Change around so that the players work from both sides

Final pass and Finish
(Blue players A and B. Red players A and B work together). Play starts with Player A RWTB across field and delivering a straight killer pass in behind defence for player B to finish. Alternate sides. Straight pass for angled run.

Set up:
- As shown
- Player 1 dribbles and lays off ball at A, then runs around pole/cone. Player 2 runs onto ball and takes a touch and shoots.
- Reds and blues return to their own line
- If blue wins the ball back, they can also score (in any goal)
- Keep count of goals

The Session
- Use half a field (or modified for smaller players)
- Set players out in positions
- Coach the team in red
- Set players in positions you have in mind for matches
Create zig zags and set attacking patterns
Scenario 1:
- Lightswitch transitions
- Have players look forward as soon as they win back the ball and make forward runs
Scenario 2:
Deep run from central midfield players beyond striker upon winning ball back
Scenario 3:
Get into goal scoring positions - focus on wingers and midfielders being in positions to score goals - in the face of the goal inside the box

Head Throw Catch (10 mins)
The session: Head throw catch
Set up:
- 30x24 field.
- Players can either head the ball, throw it or catch it (use no head at start for weaker players)
- Players cannot move with the ball in their hands.
- Players cannot throw two consecutive passes (a throw must be followed by a head).
- A goal cannot be scored by throwing into the net (must be head or other body part)
