Warm up 2

GK has to protect the cones, whilst the players on the outside try to knock the cones over.

Encourage GK to stay low and on toes, to make movement around easier to protect the cones.

Number of players and distance from cones can vary situation dependent.

Ensure that the players have done stretches/ Activation for then they spread in the blocks.

SSG (30 mins)

Key Factors

    • Into Line with the ball
    • Focus on starting position
    • Angle/distance from the ball
    •  Angle/speed of approach
    • Put onus on the attacker
    • Move down the line when the ball is out of the attackers’ feet
    • Decision (Securing / blocking / delaying)
    • Smother/Deflect, Use leading hand, Quick Movement, Committed

Things to consider:

  • If the Att has a heavy touch or miscontrols the ball, then GK looks to go down the line of the ball.
  • If the Att has ball under control then GK needs to decide, (secure the ball, Block the ball or delay)

Organisation

  • End zones in front of goals at each end of the pitch
  • Game to be played in middle zone
  • Players can only go into opposition end zone if a through ball is made to engage 1v1 with GK
  • This will then create 1v1 for Att and GK
  • If GK makes the save, then distribute into the SSG and repeat.
  • No corners or throw ins
  • Ball always starts from the GK to encourage distribution

Progression

  • Add recovering Defender
  • Add further ATT to make 2v2
  • Remove end zones
