Build up play in a 3-5-2.
Matchday -1.
Playing against a 4-4-2.
2 Blocks of 8 mins.
3 min rest.
CB foropposition and ST for working team taken out.
Success ismaking it into the final 3rd with the ball.
Objectives
Confidence to take the ball during build up.
Stretching oppositionand playing through the thirds.
Patience to switch play to createoverload/find spare player
Problem 1 - 2 x ST are pressing the ball quickly and directly. 1 CMpresses the CDM.
Solution 1 - Ball is passed from the GK to CB. On the pass theother CB's split wide, as well as the keeper. The CB on the ballhas the option to pass left to the wide CB (4) or the GK to pass to(6). In this scenario WB's will push high and wide to leave space. There will be 2 options, to pass into the 7 or 11 from the CBdepending on the cover from WM in the opposition. If these passes are screened or cut off, the WB's will be free due to an overload.
Problem 2 - ST are now pressing in a pivot press. One closes the ball showing in to out. The other blocks the CDM. If the ball isswitched, the pivot and change roles.
Solution 2 - Wide CB's stretch as wide as possible and can also progress forward. Meaning the WB's can now play higher and moreadvanced. The 2 CM's will now show for the ball, vacating space for the CB on the ball to play over in to ST or advancing WB. WB's runinside on the flight of the ball to join in the attack and play off the ST. CM's are now cover for advancing WB's.
