1 V 1 - Channelling

Organisation

Players split into two teams - attackers and defenders.  Players with the ball have to run around the cone and try and score. Players without the ball also have to run around the cone, and then try to stop the other player scoring.

Intention

Emphasis on 1-v-1 defending principles and basic defending principles.

- Force wide. - Protect the spine.

Observations
Important that the ball starts on the right. Defenders should avoid over running the attacker, allowing the attacker to come round their reverse. Channelling will be achieved by good footwork.

Ensure sideways stick position, stick fairly low to the ground. Body position should be preventing the attacker driving towards goal and cutting back with the ball infield.

1 v 2 - Channelling

Organisation

Continuation of original task. However, now two defenders can work together to channel the attacker into a double team.

Intention

Emphasis on 1-v-1 defending principles and basic defending principles.

- Force wide. - Protect the spine.

Observations

- First defender channelling should dictate the direction of the attacker.

- Second defender should take notice of this and position themselves accordingly.

- If the first defender is pushing the attacker to the left, the second defender can over compensate to this side and perform a strong low block challenge to gain possession.
