Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Ball Mastery Square

Ball Mastery Square (5 mins)

Set up

• Grid as shown
• Add as many channels as you wish
• Every player with a ball

• More touches the better = this is not about who finishes first
• Players keep their head up and go back and forth across the grid performing X skill. Add your own skills (check out www.youtube.com/@lovesfootballcom), but these work well:
  • Penguin Feet
  • Sole rolls forward, left, right, back
  • Sole roll & stop
  • Messi (outside, inside, outside...etc)
  • Stepovers
  • La Croqueta

• Head up
• Use both feet
  

• Players move across channels diagonally (this should create confusion but will require them to lift their heads more)
• Include a target goal at one so they can finish with a shot
• Work in small groups so players pass the ball to the next player after doing their skills
• Use different channels for different skills

Think STEP

• Space - do you need to make it larger (easier) or smaller (more challenging)
• Task - can you change the task or challenge?
• Equipment - can you add target areas for example?
• Players - can you increase/decrease the number of players?
