This free kick drill will focus on the goalkeeper's ability to communicate with their defense.
The goalkeeper will instruct the defending team (players in red) how to position the wall, as well as instruct the additional defender in the box where to defend the incoming attackers.
The challenge for the defending team, is that only the goalkeeper is allowed to communicate between the players on how to protect the goal. The defending players are not permitted to provide advice or instruction between themselves on how to defend the free kick
In order for the keeper to stay in command of their players, 10 free kicks will be taken by the attacking team from varying areas and angles around the 18 yard box. The attacking players must either shoot or cross the ball to adeuqately challenge the goalkeeper and their instructional abilities,
After completion of the 10 free kicks, the defending team will switch with the attacking team where they will then take their turn in defending ten free kicks with instruction from the keeper.
After the ball is kicked from the free kick, the ball is live until it either enters the net, goes out of bounds, or reaches one minute of live play.
