Specific Practice

Organisation:

Pitch set up as shown.

1 full size goal defended by the team out of possession (blues )

3 mini goals defended by the team in possession (yellows)

Channels marked out on both wings (red cones/flats)

Green cones marked as a zone where Yellows’ CBs cant go outside (for SSG)

7v7+GK

Blue team with 7 players + GK set a formation of a 1-4-2-1 (1 GK, back 4 & midfield 3)

Yellow team with 7 players without GK set a formation of a 1-3-3 ( 1 CB, midfield 3 & front 3)

Objectives:

Working with the team out of possession (blues) on how to defend the lines.

If the blue win possession they have to counter quickly.

The yellows target is to try to break line and play forward through the middle or around, if cant play forward, then try to switch play. (realism)

5mins - walk through(after frame ASAP - roles & responsibilities=STRUCTURE) & concurrent

5mins - coaching process & concurrent

(WHO/WHAT/HOW/WHY/WHAT-IFS)

Explanation:

Ball always start from the yellows.

Yellows in possession aim to score in the goal.

yellows should first aim to break the line and play through the middle, if cant play forward, then aim to switch play and find space to play forward.

The blues aim to stay compact, defend the lines and protect the middle. If blues win possession, they then will try to score on a counter within 10 seconds in one of the 3 mini goals (as the LW,FW,RW)

When the yellows are in possession, fullback of blues will need to tuck in and stay compact and stay connect with CBs.

1pt - for yellows score

2pts - for blues won the ball and score within 10 seconds

Targets:

Yellows in possession, blues will need to stay compact, the 2 fullbacks will tuck in and stay connected to the CBs, if the yellows make a pass to the wide area to their LW, the blue RB will go and delay, the right CB will shift to the right side(between 6&18yard box), the left CB will shift and stay in line with the penalty spot and the LB will also shift laterally(stay in line with the 2nd post) and leave the far channel open. (If yellows manage to switch the play, then blues will then shift laterally), and blue’s no9 will need to make arc run and cut the field in half and force them play wide.

Midfield 3 will then need to drop back, protect the middle and try to defend the passing lines. No.6 screen no.9 and also marking and covering the opposing mids. Blues will try to cover 2 channels when out of possession, and try to win the ball in wide areas.

If the yellows CBs plays to CDM and CDM makes a pass to CAM, one of the CDM needs to step and delay him and try to force him to play back or wide, and other CDM needs to provide cover, the CAM needs to drop back deeper in case we win the ball then we will have an option to play forward. Blues' fullbacks need to tuck in and make the pitch small, and need to force the play wide and then the team will shift laterally together and win the ball in wide areas.

Managed yellow’s no9 stays ball side, no.10 stays opposite side

Key Points:

Out of possession:

- make the pitch small

- narrow and compact shape

- protect the middle, no splits

- force them wide

In possession:

- make the pitch big

- quick counter attack

- play through, around or over

- composure

SSG

Organisation:

Set up as shown.

9v9

Blue team with 8 outfield players + GK set a formation of a 1-4-3-1 (GK, back 4, midfield 3 & 1 forward)

Yellow team with 8 outfield players + GK set a formation of a 1-2-3-3 (GK, 2 CBs, midfield 3 & front 3)

Continuing to coach the blue team, objectives stay the same. Yellows will continue to play through the lines or switch play.

5mins - walk through(after frame ASAP - roles & responsibilities=STRUCTURE) & concurrent

5mins - coaching process & concurrent

(WHO/WHAT/HOW/WHY/WHAT-IFS)

Explanation:

The blues must continue to defend narrow and compact by leaving the opposite wing side free and then shifting laterally together as a unit if the play is switched.

Can the striker and one of the mids try and stop the yellows to break their first line to yellow's mids and win possession from there.

Challenges & Targets:

Yellows are challenged to move the ball quickly and switch play and try to stretch the blues and create space in the middle.

blues will keep trying to force the yellows to play wide/backwards. When blues win possession, they have 10 seconds to score in the mini goals.

Now blues have a pivot, they can try to anticipate the play a little more and try to set a trap.

If yellow left CB has the ball, can the blue FW block the passing line to RB to force them play to their LW (wide), if blue FW makes a run like that, the RB and midfield 3 has to be ready and try to anticipate the next move. Midfield 3 then will shift laterally toward our right side. RB will go a little closer to yellow's LW and try to intercept the pass because that's the only option they have and try to win the ball there.

What if - blues win possession and they lose it right away, when blues are out of shape, the players whos closest to the ball will step in and delay the attack and everyone will need stay tight and connected and try to win the ball again. When they win the ball, try to score in 10seconds.

Out of possession:

- make the pitch small

- narrow and compact shape

- protect the middle, no splits

- force them wide

In possession:

- make the pitch big

- quick counter attack

- play through, around or over

- composure
