Football/Soccer Session (Beginner): GK Exercise (2008 & 2009 GKs)

Set Up:

1 regulation sized goal

1 mini goal with two cones with a ball placed on each one

Working GK (green) stats by the post with a ball in his hands

1 server (yellow) by the other post with a ball in hands. 2nd server (yellow) is inside the cone area by the 18 yrd box

Green GK's are on one team, Yellow GK's are on another team

Description:

GK in green will role the ball into the mini goal. GK will try to knock off one of the balls on top of the cone. He he knocks off a ball he will get one point, two points if he knocks both of them off.

After he rolls the ball the GK will enter into the regulation sized goal.

The server in yellow will toss a ball to the server inside the coned area. That server will catch the ball then have a shot on the GK (green) in goal. If the server scores, his team will get a point.

Coach Points:

When rolling the ball keep the ball low so the ball is not bouncing towards the goal

Stance when facing the shot

Set prior to the shot on goal from the server

Be aware of goalkeepers position in goal prior to the shot

Variations:

Change up the service from the yellow servers
