7v7

Roles of Each Player in 7v7 in Build-up Phase: 1-2-3-1

#1: Role of the Goal Keeper: keepers should learn how to support the back line in possession, how to distribute and be the first line of attack instead of just punt the ball long. Keepers need to learn to pass the ball on goal kicks rather than just kick it long.

#4&5: Role of the Center Backs: The back line plays a vital role in possession. The defenders need to learn how to support the midfield in possession, how to make the field big and how to help relieve pressure. The defense also plays a crucial role in switching the point of attack.

#6 Role of the Defensive Midfield: the number 6 player dictates the rhythm of possession. He needs to learn how to support the attack from behind the ball.

#2&3 Role of the Wide Players: Players 2 & 3 provide width and penetration. They need to learn to stay wide and open body to the field and provide support to the midfielders.

#9 Role of the Center Forward: Player 9 provides depth and an outlet from high pressing opponents. She needs to learn to stretch the field and stay high and central and be available for the long pass option from the back.

Build-up Phase

Build up Phase with Coordinated Movements of each player.

#1 plays it to #5 who has peeled off with hips open. #1 also supports #5 by sliding over a bit to be an option in case #5 doesn't have options.

#6 has peeled off with hips open to field by dropping in a position of support.

#3 has peeled off to be an option for #5 with hips open to field.

#9 moves to side of the ball to an option. (in this scenario it may be difficult for #9 to peel off with hips open)

As ball travels to #9:

#6, #2, & #3 need to be in positions of support. They need to be an option as #9 will most likely not be able to turn with the ball unless they've created enough separation from defender.

$4&5 squeeze up the field by moving up towards the center. If the ball goes back to #6 then #4 & 5 should be thinking to peel off again to make the field bigger again.

As ball travels to #3:

#6 should push up into the midfield to provide support. If #6 gets it, they should be looking to switch the ball and then provide support for #2.

#9 should either make a diagonal run down the line, peel off to receive with hips open, or check to the ball by first checking away to create separation.

#5 should support by sliding over and by peeling off to create some separation.
