Welsh Way Principles
Understand when and how, to stop the ball breaking lines utilising fast pressure on the ball as a unit,
Protect the middle of the pitch.
Pitch size and organisation.
60 x 40 Yard pitch.
7 vs 7 players
2 Full size Goals
4 x 5 min blocks.
Coach and Assistant have balls, either to feed in to the red 3. This changes up the angle.
Bibs.
Head Coach - Coach the blue team,
Blue team objectives:
- Defending Lines.
- Looking to put fast pressure on the ball.
- Protect the middle,
- Stay narrow and compact to stop the split passes,
- Also look to protect the spaces in behind.
Assistant Coach - Manage the red team
Red team objectives:
- Play through over or around
- Make the pitch wide
- Ball speed.
Explanation.
Coach (A) feeds the ball in to either of the red CB pair, or any showing red team member that's open,
As the session progresses the coach and assistant coach will move around the pitch to get different angles, the ball can be players in to the red team from any of the coaching points when the ball goes dead.
The Blue team will look to stay narrow and compact to stop the split pass, working as a unit within the shaded area, this will force play wide.
The red attacking team will look to move the ball quickly to try and break the lines of the blue team, if they cant they will look to play over or around them to score a goal.
If the blue team recover the ball they will look to adopt the in possession principle of breaking lines, this will ensure realism within the session.
If the blue team recover the ball they will be on a limited time or passes to score so we can concentrate on the session principles.
Challenges, conditions & targets
1. Challenge players to have touches they need not want when in possession.
3. Team in possession - the players must try to break the lines of the opposing team by threading split passes through opposing players or playing around or over them (the problem for the reds). The team in possession will score 3 goals for splitting opposing players and 1 goal for playing around
4. You may as the coach want to challenge the opposing team to minimal touches (2/3) so that transitions occur and you get the opportunity to work with your own players more frequently
Key Factors
Out of possession: Make the pitch small Press the ball / restrict the space as a unit
Break passing lines
Defend narrow
Prevent forward passes
Prevent split passes
Force the play wide
Leave the furthest opposition players
Protect the space behind
Interventions-
Coaching Process
Concurrent
Walk Through
Terminal
Coaching positions.

Understand when and how, to stop the ball breaking lines utilising fast pressure on the ball as a unit,
Protect the middle of the pitch.
Pitch size and organisation.
24 x 15 Yard pitch. Split in to zones. two 8x15 zones in the middle with two 4x15 end zones.
4 vs 4 players
2 12x6 Goals
4 x 2.5 min blocks.

Explanation.
4 v 4 in zones as shown , implement Out Of Possession principles to prevent striker getting on ball
1. The defending team is looking to win the ball back in a pressing manner while protecting the space centrally, staying narrow and trying to stop split passes.
2. Red team players to take as many touches as they need not want when trying to break lines.
3. The red team players must try to breaking the lines of the opposing team by threading split passes through opposing players or playing around or over them.
4. You may as the coach want to challenge the opposing Red team to minimal touches (2/3) so that transitions occur and you get the opportunity to work with your own players more frequently
5. Striker to score with first time shot
6. If the Blue team win the ball in play then they use In Possession principles as normal , but use conditions to speed up transition of play to reflect topic
7, Play restarts with 3 player zone getting the ball from coach (usually the In possession team, but to create reward and realism the coached out of possession team should get to use In possession principles at times as well)
Conditions, Challenges & Targets
1, After a period of time allow the Blue team striker to go in to the middle red team zone and put pressure on them after 3 passes
