The progression to the drill is to add a recovering midfield player to help the defenders. This encourages the attacking midfielders to be more aware of any defending players tracking back. The extra defender will also make it more difficult with reducing space on the pitch.
Coaching points:
Awareness - Decision making
Movement - Creating space

Two wide zones are clearly marked out. Only one player from each team is allowed into this zone. This is to encourage teams to use the wide areas. This also creates many 1v1 situations as well as the opportunity of over-laps.
Progression: Free play (take away zones)

Bedding in [1] 4v3 (5 mins)
One of the back 3 players play a ball out to one of the wide players who passes up to the striker. The striker then passes the ball back to any one of the midfield three. On passing the ball back to the midfield, this activates the defenders and a 4v3 is created. The attacking team (black) look to attack the wide areas ending with a shot at goal. If the defenders (blue) win the ball they look to play it up to one of the three players up field. Once the game is dead the three attacker change with the next three players and two defenders drop out and replaced by another two. The goalkeepers change each run.
