Defending the overload (10 mins)

Welsh way principle

  • Understand when and how to deal with numerical advantage the opposition have.
Objective
  • Objective is for the defending team is to stop the overload situation from happening in the green area by winning possession in the red area and try too create and overload situation in their favour. Red team will start in possession and the Blue team will be defending. Red team aim is too pass the ball too their team mate in a unopposed area and for them to get the ball into the green area to create a 3v2 overload and try to score a goal in an numerical advantage position. Blue team objective is too stop it and use the same objective by
  • blocking central passes, stop the switch into the unopposed colour player , protect the space between lines, protect the space between the lines and also control the space in behind and show them away from the goals.
Organisation
  • Red coned area , 30m x 20m , Green coned area 30m x 20m , 2 mini goals. Footballs. 11 players , 6 Red players , 5 Blue players. Yellow flat discs.
Coach
  • The coach will work with the team out of possession which will be starting off the Blue team in the red coned area. Helping the Blue players on how to understand how and when to deal with the overload the opposition have and when and how is best way to win the ball back and create the overload situation in their favour.
  • The Blue players need to first stay narrow and stop the space in between each other and force the pass wide to the spare player, the Blue player the closet to the ball needs to read and anticpate the pass and react quickly to stop the first time pass to the unopposed player from the spare player in the overload situation.
