Technical There must be a basic technical need for participants to pass and dribble the ball to make sure there is an opportunity for possession to progress therefore the ball can get the end target. |
|
Tactical The attacking side will use the height made by the target in the final third so this gives them an advantage. In order for this to happen the ball must be played into the final third. The best opportunity for this to happen is in the wide areas of the pitch as the target will have to move in order to receive the ball they must drag the defender away from then by using body movements. |
|
Physical There must be a high tempo because the outcomes will be met if the session is of a high tempo because of the overloads this session will create. |
|
Psychological Every player on the pitch must think about the positioning of where they are on the pitch. Where is the movement? where is the space? Do they have the correct body shape. |
|
Social The participants will use constant communication and teamwork in order to work the ball over to the other side of the pitch. This allows progression to push forward. |

Technical Getting the ball from one side to the other using the thirds. |
|
Tactical Movement off the ball in order to receive the pass and give a good opportunity to score and get the main aim of the session. |
|
Physical Allowing there to be a high tempo to give players the best opportunity to suceed. |
|
Psychological Players must think about there positioning to allow them to create space to receive the ball. |
|
Social Communication to allow teammates to work against the other team to achieve the aims and the goals. |
Part 2 (3 minutes) - During the bit of the session players will be locked into the different thirds.
There will be 1 ball in play so this part is a drill inside of a game situation so it will be reds vs blues and they must work the ball though the thirds and then the team who does this will be allowed to score a goal at the end of it.
There are some key factors I am looking for in this part and these are: timing of the pass and creating the movement to receive the ball.
Part 2 B (3 minutes) (Red movement lines)
In this part players are now allowed the leave the zones only if they pass the ball into the next zone/section. If the players can do this within 10 seconds then you will get 1 point and then if the team scores they will get 2 points. This gives the teams an incentive to score double points and will increase the tempo of the session. The red movement lines demonstrate where the players would move into to help support the players with the ball.
The floater is also aloud to move into the zones when the ball has been played into an area.
Scoring system
1 point for playing through the thirds
2 points for playing through the third and then scoring
Drive by's, fly by's and coaching interventions will be used to get the correct coaching points across to the players

Part 3- (4 minutes)
In the part of the session the players will go back into a game with no restrictions as the players can use what they learned in parts 2 and 2 a.
Players are not locked into zones so they can free roam around the pitch to allow free movement of the players.
The floater player will play for whichever team has the ball and they can also score.
Using the coaching points discussed in the previous parts the players should have a understanding of what to do in order to get the correct learning outcomes out and help the players understand how to play through the thirds
Scoring System
1 point for a normal goal
2 points for playing though the thirds then scoring a goal

Coaching aims
The aims of this sessions are to encourage players to through each thirds of the football pitch.
How can they do this effectively?
By playing through each of the thirds with tempo and creating the different movements for players to pass to teammates.
Penetrating passes through the Thirds and with the finish as well.
Communicating with teammates to find angles for the pass.
Progressions/regressions
If players are succeeding during this session then I will add different challenges to either individual players or a team.
These could look like this: passing restrictions or time restrictions for how long they have to make the pass.
If players are struggling during this session then I will make sure that players can leave the areas instead of being locked into zones they can leave the areas to create options for the pass.
Interventions
- Drive bys and fly bys, (making sure players understand how to create the space in order to support teammates,
- Setting goals for individuals
-pulling players out and telling them what they can do to improve on the errors
- giving them motivation when they do a good pass or create good movement
Coaching points
- demonstrating how to find the space
- How to make the pass quickly
- How to drag players away to create the angle to recieve
- how to communicate effectively
- How to get the first touch right
- How to shoot In the final third when you have the ball
The red cones will indicate the different thirds of the pitch.
Part 1- To start the session there will be game for 3 minutes with no restrictions as I want to understand what the players already know about playing through the thirds.
The game will be 5vs5 however whichever team has the ball the number 7 in the middle of the pitch will become a floater and will play for both teams, this creates a 6vs5 and will allow the session to become intense so this allows for high levels of engagement during the whole session.
