Area:

Usinng 3rd  of a full size pitch at one end to use penatly area and full size goal. Divide the area in a left and right side with cones, flats, discs from the centre of goal, through penalty spot to the edge of the star line. Create 2 starting gates to the side of each left and right area as shown.

Equipment:

Cones/disc/flats, bibs, balls, full size goal

Objective:

Set up pitch as described and assign 2 defenders and 1 goal keeper. The remaining players are attackers. Defenders starting position is inside the penalty area on their side as shown in yellow and blue shaded boxes. It's a simple 2v1 shooting task. The attackers from the left start from the starting gate and attack. as soon as the ball is in play the defender can come out the penalty area if they wish. the play is only confimed to the left or right of the centre line and not cross over. Ther attackers have a set time to get their shot away to make more realistic. This may alter but 10 seconds is a good starting point. This could increase to 15 if the players are struggling to take advantage of their overload then reduce back down. As soon as the left side has got their shot away or time run out or tackled then the right side can attack straight away and the precess is repeated. When the players have completed their attack they go to the back of the queue of the opposite side they attacked and the next 2 players in the queue of the step up. Swap over defenders on a regular basis.

Progression:

Reduce time scale to get shot away and increase player numbers to 3v2.

Key points:

Ephasise the need for speed, don't hesitate, don't go back as we are trying to penerate the penalty area, isolate the defender with triangles and get in behind, create shooting oppotunities before opponent recovers. Create good angles off the ball and make forward runs past your team mate for greater success. Communicate where you want the ball either with verbal or non verbal communication. When in  the area S.O.S (shoot on sight).
