Warm Up & Dribbling Technique #1 (5 mins)

  • Key Factors

  • Dribbling focus, Running with the ball, ball control, speed of movement

  • Body position and technique to turn away/cut from the cone in the middle.

  • Organisation

  • 14 players +2 GK (2 groups of 3 players & 2 group of 4 players across 2 identical grids)
  • 2 balls per grid, with 1 ball for each group of 3/4 players
  • 2 balls continuously going at the same time, 1st player dribbles to the cone on the middle, then makes a turn/cut away from the cone to their right and then dribbles the ball across to the opposite group. Player then goes to the back of the opposite line.
  • 2 x 1.5 min efforts / stretches in between
  • The second 1.5 min set have the players still dribble to the cone in the middle, however, this time turn/cut to their left and then dribble the ball to the opposite line and join the back of that line.
  • Always follow your ball out to the opposite line
  • increase the speed as the drill progresses
  • Use both inside and outside of the foot

Technique - Running with the ball #2 (5 mins)

Key Factors

  • Running with the Ball, Dribbling, ball control, speed of movement

Organisation

  • 14 players + 2 GK (4 groups of 3/4 players across 2 identical grids)
  • 2 balls per grid, with 1 ball for each group of 3/4 players
  • 2 balls continuously going at the same time, 1st player runs with the ball til to 4th red flat disc and then plays an angled ball across to the opposite group. Player then goes to the back on the line. Player from opposite lines takes first touch forward and executes the same movement down the opposite channel
  • 2 x 1.5 min efforts / stretches in between
  • The second 1.5 min set have the players switch sides so that the angled pass at the end is played with the Left foot.
  • Increase speed as drill progresses
  • Keep eyes up and not always down on the ball

Skill Practise -Dribbling & Running with ball (5 mins)

Key Factors

  • Dribbling, Running with Ball at a Defender and trying to beat them in a 1 v 1 dual and then either score on a large goal with a GK

Organisation

  • Same grid size as the technique drills
  • 2 grids of 6 players + 2GK (3 attacking players and 3 defending players at each end)
  • Player A starts with the ball and passes firmly into the feet of player B (player at the start of the opposite line). Player B then has to dribble and try and beat Player A in a 1 on 1 action. Once Player B beats player A with a dribbling/running with the ball action they then get a shot on target. Once the action is completed Player A then goes to the back of the Group B line and becomes an attacker for their next rep. Player B once they have either lost the ball of gotten a shot off then goes to the back on line A and on their next action will be an defender.
  • 3 x 2 minutes
  • 1st Variation - Passive Defending
  • 2nd Variation - Defender no restrictions
  • 3rd Variation - Transition allowed so if defender wins the ball he can then dribble to end of line to score a goal too.

SSG (10 mins)

Key Factors

  • Dribbling, Running with the ball across & into the end zone and stopping the ball dead.

Organisation

  • 7 v 7 + (GK join a team)
  • Directional SSG of 2 teams of 7
  • 2 x 3 min games
  • Unlimited touches in the main grid, the aim of the game is to try and carry the ball forward by dribbling and running with the ball to create 2v1 or 1v1 situations. Attacking team then aims to get the ball into the end zone and then dribble the ball to the end line and stop it dead for a point. Player cant receive a pass in the end zone but must dribble the ball forward into the end zone, once in the end zone 1 defender can enter that zone to try and win the ball or knock it out to prevent a point being scored.
  • If ball goes out it starts with the coach playing into a defender on the team in possession
  • Team who scores does not start with the ball upon restart from the coach.
  • Must be over halfway to score the in the SSG
  • Team who scores, does not start with the ball. The team defending gets possession and starts from the end zone.
  • No off sides
  • Unlimited touches - Progress to 3 touch max
  • GK Neutral has 2 touches
  • Progression Game - add in the 2 small goals. If the RED team is able to progress the ball into the end zone then 1 red can then try and score a goal. 1 BLUE player can also enter that zone and try and prevent the red team from scoring.
  • 5 x 2 min games
