Description

- Help give the girls situations where they have to determine whether to take the risk and go forward and reep the reward OR to decide it is not worth it and work your way around defenses.

- Be able to remain calm on the ball when spaces get tight and the ball starts to move quickly.

Keeping the ball w/ Direction (15 mins)

Organization:

- Large rectangular gird (can be 10x25 or 15x25 depending on your teams need for space for success)

Instructions:

- Goal is to get from one endzone player to another for 1 point.

- Green players are neutrals (rotate as you see fit)

- The team on the "outside" (in this case red) is to play quickly and move the ball from target man to target man.

- If the "inside" (defending) team wins the ball it is an immediate transition from inside to outside.

Coaching Points:

- Understanding whether we can go forward or must recycle back around

- If you pass forward, your job to move up and support under the ball. If you are off the ball when the pass is made, EXPECT to be help for the new ball carrier.

- Can we keep it? Can we, once we win the ball back, just make the simple play and just help our team defend a bit by staying on the ball?

Progression/Regression

- Regression:

- Instead of getting only from one target to another, you can get a pass count for a point as well.

- Also if the transition is too much for your players you can have play be dead once the ball is won and work your way into the transition phase later.

-Progressions: Take away neutral in the middle.

Keeping the ball w/ a purpose (25 mins)

Organization:

- 3v2 (Red vs. Blue)

- Two big goals and a large grid between the two.

Instructions:

- Play starts as a 3v2 Red playing blue. Whenever Blue wins it, it remains 3v2 until the 2 give the ball out EITHER of the wide players.

- Once the ball is given to EITHER of the wide players they BOTH join the new attack creating a 4v3 (blue playing red).

- Once the ball is out of play or either keeper makes a save, play starts over as a 3v2 red playing blue with the wide players back out wide.

Coaching Points:

- Understanding when you pass forward if you go support underneath, inside, or over the ball

- Voluntary, quick movement of the ball

- Can we play it simple when everything starts going too fast?? Can we win it, and then play a simple ball to break pressure and allow teammates to reset?

- Can we let the ball do the defending? Keep away but play with intent.

Progession/Regression:

- Progression: If you are the team with numbers up, and you get "x" amount of passes, you get a point, normal goals are worth 2.
