Set Up: Half field. Supply of balls near center. Two small 4*4 grids at mid field (as depicted). 14 players (7v5+1).
Description: Modified functional practice focusing on pressure in the final third. Red attack with their 1, 2, 5, 6, 4/8 and 9 (target player). Blue defend with their 11, 9 and 10 and 8. Play starts with the server playing a ball into the GK who plays out of the back. Reds look to find their target player - who can shift between two small grids at center. Blue look to regain possession and attack the large goal.
Key Factors:
Look at visual cues: ball rolling (close as the ball travels), poor touch, communication.
9 splits the field (denying the switch, 10 slides over denying passing lanes, 7/11 press showing inside depending on which side the ball is on.
