Description

An opportunity to have some larger pitch games, you can use a half pitch for older players if suitable.

In possession 

Only eliminate into space 

Scanning all the time 

Move the defenders feet

Eliminate through left foot space if possible

Merge the groups into two larger groups. Each group has 20mins of 5 v 5 Channel game and 20mins of 5 v 5 variations.

3 v 3 Bench Ball (20 mins)

3v3 (or 4 v 4) with goal scorers for each team in the End Zone

Teams score by passing the ball to either Goal scorer in the End Zone

When a team scores, the End Zone player who receives the pass is released from the goals and the team turns and attacks in the other direction. Before they can score again, they must get a player up into their new End Zone (working on positional awareness, height options, change of pace, moving the ball forward)

Change It: Each player must get a touch on the ball before they can score in the End Zone

Change It: Players may only use push passes and if they sweep/hit then they lose possession

Change It: If a player gets hit on the feet, they have to replace the End Zone player immediately

Scoring

Play in sets of 2 mins

2 pts for pass into end zone

1 pt for interception turnover

Interception Rondo (20 mins)

Set up one or two areas

Group players into 4s or 5s (not more preferably)

Players outside the area pass the ball to each other

Passes must travel through the area

Player in the area tries to intercept

Coaching points

Weight through the ball (step)

Make eye contact

Receiver use stick to indicate where they want the pass

Receiver to use first touch round the cone

5 v 5 Channel Game (20 mins)

  • 5 v 5 in quarter of the pitch
  • Make a square box in the middle of the pitch (use strips)
  • Players can move through the box and the ball can't move through the box
  • 4 minutes sets
  • Use subs if too many players, but keep to 5 v 5 max.
  • 2 pts for a goal
  • 1 pt for a transfer from one channel to the other

Adaptions

Only 2 defenders allowed defensive side of the box.

Introduce joker to create overloads

Each time a player makes a pass they must get ahead of the ball (except in the end zone)

5 v 5 variations (20 mins)

Objective: Forward first fast.

Play in 4 minute sets then rotate team, keep teams to 5(ish) aside, use subs or 3 teams on rotation if numbers are too high.

Must be in the end zone to score, push / flick at goal only.

Keep rolling count of which team wins each set and total it up at the end.

Change It: at least 2 attacking players must stay in the end zone (though can rotate)

Change It: Allow teams time to strategize and try to let them lead the chat and planning (for the older players)

Change It: minimum 3 forwards allowed in End Zone

Change It: 5 second possession rule

Change It: Ball has to be transferred from LEFT to RIGHT or RIGHT to LEFT before team can score

Change It: Goal counts for double points if scored from baseline/angle run and pass or deflection

Scoring system

1 pt for goal

2 pts for deflection / pass round keeper (older players)

1 pt for turnover in end zone.

2 pts for interception in end zone
