This session is to reinforce and continue the sessions we have been working on to improve movement off the ball.

Area:
Create space the width of the penaly area and going up to the halfway line with cones or discs.
Create 4 squares 4 yards in size at random.
Equipment:
Cones, discs balls.
Objective:
this game is to teach players to find smal pockets of space between players on the pitch. Put players in groups of 3 or 4 depending on numbers. The objective is for players to pass and move into a new space and look to pass the ball into a square for a team mate to recieve the ball. Ideally we want the player being on the move to recieve in the square (red team) and not stood awaiting the ball static (black team). One team of the 3 are the defending team ( blue team) the other 2 are the attacking tems. Only the blue defending team can tackle but are not allowed to tackle in the squares. these are safe zones. Blacks and reds are not allowed to tackle each other. Each team scores a point by getting a sucessful pass in the square then must go and find a new square. you cant't score in the same square twice in a row. Passes to static players are not counted. Run for 5 mins then swap defending team. Each team has a round as defenders. The winning team is the team with the most points.
Progression:
To score a point the ball must come into a square then a sucessful pass back out to a team mate. Allow the defenders to enter the scoring squares. Reduce the size of the squares. the coach randomly moves squares around so they are not in the same position during the pracrice.
Simplify:
Allow players to wait in the square for a pass, make the squares bigger, reduce the number of denfenders.
Key Points:
Encourage players to move and find new space, Encourage overlaps, underlaps and 3rd man runs.play with heads up as the area will be congested with other players.communitcarte to each other when to pass and when to recieve.

Area:
Any pitch size suitable for number of players.
Eqipment:
Bibs, Balls, Goals, Cones/dics/poles (if not line markings).
Objective:
Split the players into 2 teams and play a normal match. The objective is to try and encourage overlaps, unerlaps and 3rd man runs. This is rewarded by a point scoring system. A actual goal is1 point. If an overlap or underlap and successful is produced then the team score 2points. If a team produce a 3rd man run with a successful pass then this scores 3 points.
Key points:
Movement off the ball, body shape to receive the ball or allow ball to run across/infront of player into space. weight of pass important. Pracrice 1 touch passing (body shape to allow this).
Progression:
Play normal game but try and emphasise trying still to perform overlaps/underlaps/3rd man runs and praise when performed.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Area:
use hal of pitch or reduce if number of players is too low. Create 2 gates on either wing as shown.
Equipment:
Poles, cones to create gates, balls bibs.
Objective: This practice is to use the movement practices to help us move up the pitch with good movement and passing in possesion. We will work with the team defending the single large goal for 5 mins then work with attacking team. The coach will randomly put ball s into play (giving possesion to the defending team) and see if they can score by dribbling the ball through the gates. The attacking team just try and score in the main goal. Run for mins then swap teams over so both sides attack and defend.
