DEFENSIVE PRINCIPLES
(#1, #2, #3, #4, #5,)
TOP PRIORITIES:
1) AGGRESSION!!!!!
2) BLOCK TACKLES TO WIN 50/50 BATTLES
3) ONCE THE BALL IS WON, QUICKLY BRING UP FIELD BY EITHER DRIBBLE OR PASS
1. PRIMARY FOCUS:
Looking for is how aggressive we are willing to be defensively (esp. our smaller players).
**If we're not giving up some fouls then we are not fighting hard enough!!!
**Fight for everything.
**Be Physical!!
**If you fall down get up straight away and IMMEDIATE CHASE
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
MIDFIELD PRINCIPLES
(#6, #8, #10, #7, #11)
1) COUNTER ATTACK FROM THE BACK WITH SPEED
2) ATTACK WITH BALANCE (#7,#6,#8,#11)
PRIMARY FOCUS
Defense to midfield must be the catalyst for our quick attacking play.
** Can we make quick decisions with ensure that we find a player with these counter attack passes
** Create balance by rotating positions (play outside, overlap, drive into the middle -- drive into the middle, players push outside - can we have 2 passing options on our counter attack phases
** Play the ball FORWARD......WHEN POSSIBLE!! But think about the negative pass.
****FIND THE GRASS WITH YOUR PASS

ATTACKING PRINCIPLES
(#9, #10) or (#8, #10 to #9)
TOP PRIORITIES!!
1) COMBINATIONS IN THE ATTACKING THIRD OF THE FIELD
TOP PRIORITY:
1. COMBINATION PLAY - CHALLENGE: CAN WE CREATE SOME COMBINATIONS?
****SIMPLE****
- Do we have the ability to do overlapping runs from our #7 & #11 or even #2 & #3?
- Can we play a wall pass/give-n-go?
- Can we play quick double passes (possess) to draw defenders and then penetrate (attack)?
***REMEMBER: COMBINATIONS ONLY WORK WHEN THERE IS MOVEMENT!!!!!
-Check Teamate, check ball

SSG
9V9 (or variation dependent on numbers)
Line Up - Reds - 1-5-2-1
Blues - 1-4-3-1
Usually only have 12 at practice so use a 7 v 4 + 1
The Game
Rules - Blues
- First pass from their keeper must be to one of the back 5 (#2, #4, #5, #3, & #6) (Trust factor, will your teammate be where they are supposed to be?)
- After 10 minutes the above rule is not compulsory but if it is followed they will score 3 points if they score from playing out
Reds
- They have a maximum of 14 seconds to score and will get a point if they score inside 14
- 2 Points or scoring inside 10
- 3 for scoring inside 6
Coaching Points
Communication amonst the Back 5 (#2, #4, #5, #3, & #6)
Positional understanding (how do you move when the ball is on the left? right?, or center?)
Quality of pass and movement [first touch (fragile egg), one touch, two touch]
When and where to drop off to receive the ball (find the grass to get the pass)

Drill
For this unopposed drill I will only be using my GK, back 4 and a 2 CM.
I chose to do this to give myself more time to work with the back 4 and what I expect from them when we have a goal kick or when the ball is with our keeper.
The pop up goals will act as my other midfield players for my Reds to try hit.
The ball will always restart from the keeper.
#3, #8 or the opposite side #2, #8 will move up field after the pass to #7 or #11 for the give and go counter attack.
Coaching Points
Wing Backs to stay nice and wide
Defenders body language to always want to receive the ball
Be brave in possession
High tempo
Quality of pass and movement
