MOTG - We Just Won The Ball
Principle - Fastest Way Forwards
Objective - Get in to the danger zone with end results ASAP
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization
- Create 4 5 x 20 channels side by side
- Create a 2M horizontal channel at 15 yards
- The area between the channel and the end of the channel becomes the end zone
- Have 1 defender and split the other players equally among the channels
- The defender will play solely in the channel at the 15 yard mark
- Each player starts with a ball
Activity
- On the coaches go the players will attempt to get their ball in to the end zone
- If they can dribble in they get 2 points, if they can pass in they get 1 point
- The defender is in your channel you are not able to go in to the horizontal channel
- After every go you must mark down how many points you got on the white board
The objective for the players is to find the most effective fastest way forwards with an end result, the coach may ask why would we pass instead of dribble? why wouldn't we wait until the defender moves and then go? Why do we need to keep our heads up when we dribble and what are we looking for?
Progression
- As soon as the player steps over the line with the ball they must countdown from 5, if the time runs out before the ball gets in to the end zone they get 0 points for that attempt
- Have the players compete against each other or other teams to see who gets the most points

Organization
- Create 3 5 x 20 channels side by side
- Place a small goal at the end of each channel
- Players start at the opposite end with a ball each
- Each channel has 3-4 players
Activity
- On the coaches trigger (Is it possible to make the trigger game related) the players attempt to score as many goals as they can 1 at a time
- If the ball hits a cone on the way to the goal the players must come back to the start
- The next player can go as soon as the ball is in the net or hits a cone
- The team that scores the most goals in 1 minute wins
The objective for the players is to find the most effective fastest way forwards with an end result. Are there better routes to take through the cones? less changes of direction? Why is this better? Why do we need to keep our heads up when we dribble and what are we looking for? Why is it important that we look at what is going on in front of us? As soon as we see that trigger (Ball hitting the cone, ball hitting the net) we can go
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization
- Place 2 goals 10 yards apart on the same line
- Place a cone 5 yards in front of the goals directly in then middle between the goals
- Place 2 cones/flat disks 5 yards apart in front of the cone
- The defender starts with the ball 5-7 yards in front of the two cones facing the goals
- The attacker starts 2 yards behind the defender
Activity
- The defender will start off the practice by dribbling the ball to the two cones and stopping it in between.
- The defender will then run around the cone and turn to defend the shot, choosing which goal to protect
- As soon as the defender has stopped the ball the attacker will run towards the ball and attempt to score in the most open goal with a maximum of 2 touches
The objective for the players is to find the most effective fastest way forwards with an end result. Question for the players is what goal will we try to shoot in? Hopefully the players will understand that if a goal is covered we will look to find the other goal.

Organization
- Players start 2 metres away from each other on the end line of the field
- Each player has a ball at their feet
- Each player has a cone in front of them 20 yards out from the end line
Activity
- The coach lets the players know that on the count of go they have to hit the cone with the ball as fast as they can.
-The player can have as many goes as they like but after each attempt they must return to their starting point on the end line
- The first player to hit the cone wins
- The players can hit the cone however they like, they can throw it from the end line, they can pick it up and run with it knocking the cone over with the ball in their hand, they can run closer and throw it.
The objective for the players is to find the most effective fastest way forwards with an end result, as the coach can we get the players to think about what that might be? Are they good throwers if so maybe it is better to throw? There is a lot of open space in front of them is is better to run? etc
Progression
- Add an obstacle (cones, pole, mannequin) between them and the cone give the same instructions but if they hit the obstacle they are disqualified.
- Put the ball on the floor and the activity is the same but now they have to do it with their feet.
