2v2 Press and Cover (15 mins)
Working in pairs to defend and recognising which player needs to press and which player covers.
- Pressing player should look to show opponent towards team mate, or the touchline if he is slower.
- Position of the covering defender is important to screen the through ball, be ready to cover if pressing player is beaten 1v1 and be able to press the other attacker if the ball is passed across.
- Players try to defend their side of the area, working laterally where possible.

Defending as a unit (15mins)
Play line ball 3v3.
Players beginning to understand how to defend in a unit, they need to take up positions on the left, centre and right.
- Try to defend your side/your space
- Don't get caught too high and leave space behind, unless you're close enough to press the ball effectively.
- Central player needs to try and decide when he goes to press (if he needs to), if that happens then wide players tuck in behind.

Defending in a mid block (20mins)
Defending team is only allowed to win the ball in the middle third or their own defensive third, not allowed in the attacking third when out of possession - focus on winning the ball in the middle third.
Teams need to get into the attacking third to score.
Body shape to defend on front foot to win the ball, back foot to block tackle
Body shape to dictate play.
If we win the ball can we attack quickly with speed and quality?
Fast feet to match the pace and stride of the attacker.
Show the attacker into the block to pounce/pinch the ball.

SSG (30 mins)
15 mins - Teams should drop to the middle third, try to win the ball and break out - if they score from this it's worth 2.
15 mins - Based on philosophy of playing through the thirds and pressing from the front.
