Learning Objectives
To develop passing, possession and creating space.
Description
In a square of 5 yards we play 4v2.
The four players outside the square have a maximun of 2 touches and must maintain possession playing only from outside of the square.
The two defenders inside the square have to intercept the ball. The player who looses possession ball will change roles to become a defender
Coaching Points
1- Create space to find the right position and angle to receive the ball.
2- Improve the speed of play by limiting to 1 touch when possible.
3- It is very important to coach the correct body shape for receiving passes.
4- The 2 defending players must communicate and work together, one closing down the player in possession and the other covering the angle for the pass.

To Develop good habit by:
1- Receiving the ball on angles
2- Receiving the ball on the half turn
3- Receiving the ball with the back foot
4- Good timing for give and go/wall pass
Coaching points
1- All players must go and meet the ball when receiving pass
2- It is important that players receive the ball at an angle and with back foot (the foot furthest away from ball), this would put players automatically on the half turn so they can see all players involved.
3- Create space by checking (move away from the ball then return to meet it).
4- For give and go/wall pass, players should create space by stepping back and then move to meet the ball just as it`s played back to them.
The benefit from this will improve a player efficiency, mobility and awareness with or without the ball.

How to progress the drill
- Progress the drill by splitting the pitch into two zones. The attackers now wait in the second zone and allow the defending team out of defence free from pressure.
The three attackers are patient and allow the defenders into the 2nd zone before pressing
- Once the ball is inside the second zone, the attackers quickly pressure to win the ball. Their aim is to block passes or shots into the two goals.

The game is played in two 10 minute halves.
One team plays a high-pressure defence. When they do not have the ball, all their players squeeze into the first two zones to make the pitch compact.
The other team are playing a low pressure, counter attacking tactic. When they lose possession, they drop back to the bottom two zones, leaving the opponent`s defenders free from pressure at the back. Each team plays one half using each tactic.
