Basics

3-4-3 Diamond:

We realize that against quality teams, with technical midfielders, we are struggling defensively. When our midfield is flat, we do not make the efforts needed to support the 2 center mids or the back line.

In this system, with 4 midfielders in a diamond shape, we should be more stable, and able to provide support to each line with less efforts, or at least quicker.

Requirements for a 3-4-3 Diamond:

- Goalkeeper confident and comfotable with the feet. Able to play high and call for defensive adjustments when needed.

- Fast and athletic defenders who covers the lengh and width of the field.

- Disciplined midfielders to avoid counter attacks and support the back line into defensive cover spot.

- Forwards fast and technical, able to take on 1v1, beat the defenders off dribble and serve quality crosses.

Defending

Defensive principles:

Our HM (Holding Mid) is designated to tuck in the back line, giving us 4 defenders. When our first line of pressure is beat.

Our CM (Center Mid) is then tucking in between our Left and Right Mids, giving us a line of 3 mids in from of the back 4.

Our wings tuck in, and connect with the 3 midfielders, limiting the space on the sides. Stricker tuck in but remain on top.

On Goal Kick, our shape is more of a compact 4-3-3 than a 3-4-3.

Attacking Principles:

Our outside players gave us a frame to play in.

Outside back, outside mids, wings and Strikers make the field as big as possible.

With a big frame set, we can now navigate trough space using inside runs as a relay. As the ball travels, players rotate and travel with the ball, giving BC (Ball carrier) multiple options.

From the start to the end, We basically have the same shape.

3 Defenders, 1 Holding Mid, 3 Mids and 3 Forwards.

By simple passing, supporting the strong side, travelling as the balls does, options will be found. Only once we get into space should we carry the ball and have more than 2, 3 touches.
