End Zone Game
Remove the mini golas from the Arrival Activity and mark out an End Zone at each end of each pitch as shown.
Place 5 red cones surrounding a blue cone at one end of the pitch 10 yards away from the pitch. At the opposite end of the pitches place 5 blue cones surrounding a red cone.
The blue team play towards the Blue End Zone.
The red team play towards the Red End Zone.
Once a player has controlled the ball and stopped it dead inside the End Zone, he has to grab one of his coloured cones and place it on top the centre cone.
The first team to place all 5 of their cones on top of the central cone wins.
You can either have both sets of players in the 2 games playing with the same cones or a separate plie for each of the games.
Coaching Points.
Let them play until one of the team wins. Then get them into their groups and ask them how they might organise themselves better.
Ask them how many different ways theycan score: By dribbling into the End Zone or by passing to a team mate in the End Zone. Which is better/easier?
Let them play the game again.
Now ask the teams what their tactics might be once the opposition have just scored? Counter attack. Overload when opposition player is off the pitch.
Will they have different tactics when they are in possession and out of possession?
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Remove the End Zones and bring back the mini goals.
Play a SSG with the same scoring rules as before; when a player score they have to place a cone on top the centre cone. First team to stack up all their cones wins.
Coaching Points.
Remind the players what they might do when they are in posession and out of possession. What quick decisions do they have to make when in transition?
