5v5+4 Finishing Game

Organisation:

  • 4v4 inside the marked area with goalkeepers.
  • 4 Neutral players on the outside as shown.
  • Outside players have 2 touches/2 seconds in possession.
  • If the outside team create an assist, they replace the conceding team.
  • Scoring: 1 touch finish = 2 goals; 2 touches = 1 goal; Header= 3 points
  • If ball goes out of play, restart with opposition goalkeeper.
  • 5 minute games: winning team has the most points at the end.

Attacking KP's:

  • Movement within the area to create/empty space to score.
  • Timing of runs
  • Awareness of space and opposition in relation to goal
  • Body position & awareness from outside players.

Defending KP's: 

  • Pressing (who, how, when)
  • Cover & Balance
  • Anticipation
  • Heading/Clearing (Timing)
  • Communication

Transition KP's: 

  • Quick reaction to transition
  • Can we pass forward/score quickly (attack)
  • Can we regroup quickly (defence)

Questions: 

  • Who presses (in variety of situations, depending who has the ball) and why etc.

4v4+4 Finishing/Defending the Box

Organisation:

  • 4v4 inside the marked area with 1 goalkeeper.
  • Red attacking team receive off one of the outside players, coach will call a number, this player will pass into the attacking team.
  • Red team look to score on main goal, defending blue team look to regain and score in mini-goals.
  • Obvious offside for realism.
  • Attackers cannot use outside players once ball played in.
  • Scoring: 1 touch finish = 2 goals; 2 touches = 1 goal
  • If ball goes out of play, restart with another outside player.

Attacking KP's:

  • Movement within the area to create/empty space to score.
  • Timing of runs
  • Awareness of space and opposition in relation to goal
  • Body position to be able to shoot with first touch.

 

Defending KP's: 

  • Pressing (who, how, when)

Organisation:

  • 3v3-8v8 (with overload/without GKs)
  • 5 min games, all touches in and all goals worth 1 point but;
  • 1 touch finish eliminates 2 opponents to outside gates
  • 2 touch finish eliminates 1 opponent to outside gate
  • Lost players can be brought back by passing to them, and having a positive touch back on to the field
  • If the ball goes out, restart with GK. If a team scores, they restart with their GK (or deepest player).

Attacking KP's:

  • Awareness of space and opposition in relation to goal
  • Body position & awareness from outside players.

Numbers Game - Conditioned Game

Organisation:

  • Game based directional practice
  • Attacking team looks to score using various 'assist' zones. 
  • 12-16 box grid, depending on space available.
  • Each team attaches a value of 1-4 to each of their areas in their attacking half.
  • Each value can only be used twice.
  • The value of the goal is based on the area of the assist.
Progression:
  • Add a 'playmaker', assist is worth double points.

Attacking KP's:

  • Movement within the area to create/empty space to score.
  • Timing of runs
  • Awareness of space and opposition in relation to goal
  • Body position & awareness from outside players.
  • Teams should consider how they want to score based on where they place the values in each box.

Defending KP's: 

  • Pressing (who, how, when)

  • Heading/Clearing (Timing)
  • Communication
  • Team should plan how they want to defend based on how their opponents have allocated their points.
