Passing, recieving, moving off the ball (stamina) (20 mins)

Area:

use centre circle or use cones/discs to create circle.

Equipmment:

Balls (1 per outside player) cones/discs if needed.

Objective:

working as a pair in the middle, one player leads and the other follows. From position 1 the leader (blue) runs and calls for a ball from a feeder on the outside. When he recieves he must control and stop the ball (position 2) He then turns out and moves to another feeder for a ball and repeats (position 3). The role of the follower is to shadow bout not tackle the reciever. Once the reciever has stopped the ball dead the follower passes the ball to a feeder on the outside (position 2) then turns to follow the leader again (position 3). The leader is trying to loose the follower by working as fast as possible, changing direction and setting the pace. work for 1- 1.5mins depending on fitness then swap the pairs. Once all pairs have had a turn the leaders and followers in each pair swap roles and the practice is repeated.

Key Points:

Emphasise changing direction and not going round in a circle as changing direction multiple times makes it more difficult for the follower. This is very tiring if performed correctly. Encourage the pairs to work as hard as possible to improve fitness.

Progression:

Increase the duration of time each pair works for.

Area:

create a rectanlge 20m x 30m. use cones, discs or poles.

Equipment:

Balls, cones, discs or poles

Objective:

The player starts from corner A as the start point with 2 balls. The object is to perform a mixture of dribbles, sprints and walks to move the ball from one corner to the other and finally end back at corner A. The sequence is as follows. Player dribbles the 1st ball to corner B (blue line) then sprints back to corner A to retrieve the second ball (green line). Next they dribble the second ball to corner B (blue line) and then sprint back to corner A (green line). The player then slowly walks down to cone B (white line). This is the players recovery/rest time. Once the player walks down to corner B they repeat the sequence they just followed between corners B and C then repeat sequence between C and D and finally D to A which means they have returned to the starting point.

Key points:

This excercise is to be executed with miximum effort to increase aerobic fitness and is a H.I.T.T which requires the players to make sure they perform at these 3 different speeds to maximise the beninfit. Doing the dribble and the sprint at similar speeds will not be sufficient to produce the progressive overload required.

Playing out from the back (20 mins)

Playing out from the back Practice

Equipment

Use half 9v9 pitch (or reduce size if numbers are lower). balls, bibs, 2 extra goals/poles, cones/discs

Aim

set up attack V defence with an overload of defending team. Defending team also have a goalkeeper.

Create a retreat line for the attacking teamapprox 5 yards infront of 2 goals nearl halfway line. the defending team set up asp per start of a match. The practice starts by the coach kicking a ball deep into the defending teams half. Once the kick takes place the attacking team can press. The attacking team attack the one goal and the defending team can score in either of the two smaller goals. If the coach notices a noticeable switch in play from either team then the goal is worth double. when the ball goes out of play or dead the attackers retreat to the retreat line and the coach kicks the ball again to repeat the practice. After 5 mins switch attackers and defenders (giving extra player to reds). After both teams have played, give any pointers during drinks break and repeat 5mins each again.

Progression

Give extra player/players to attacking team to make harder or move retreat line forward.

Only allow defending team to score once they have moved pass the retreat line. The defending team have to complete a certain number of passes before they can shoot.

Key points

Encourage scanning, body shape, movement off the ball, good decision making.
