Using the Wings
Invasion Game 1
Using the Wings
2 Goals
Blue Lines - Marked out using cones (2m spacing between each cone, 1.5m in width)
Even Teams on both sides - 1 Goalkeeper in each goal (Players without PE kit are to be goal keepers)
How to play
- When players move into winged zones with the ball or the ball is passed to them in a winged zone all other players must leave the zone allowing them to run the ball down the wing.
- Players cannot score from a winged zone, they must pass to another team mate not in the winged zone for a goal to count.
- Players cannot be tackled in the winged zones.
Coaching Points
Encourage players to use winged areas to create width
Encourage players to communicate with each other - calling for the ball when they want it, putting a name on a pass.
Encourage defending team to run next to players in the winged channel in order to act as a blocker.
Variations/Developments
- Keep permanent players in the winged areas, 1 from each team. They can tackle also tackle each other, but they cannot leave the wings and nobody else can go into them still.
- Increase/Decrease size of wings.
- Restrict time allowed in wings
- Divide channels so players can only use part of it.
