Main focus - carrying and dribbling the ball (second session)

Coaches:

  • U6 - Ed plus young leaders
  • U7 - Olly plus young leaders
  • U8 - Simon plus young leaders

Warm up in team areas by dribbling their ball around and avoiding other players (can also work on turning the stick over and hand speed). Check key points below. This will be followed by a rotation of three exercises. Coaches will remain with group and rotate around 10 min exercises.

  • Eggs in the basked (led by age group coach)
  • Sharks and fishes (led by age group coach)
  • Left to right drags/eliminations (led by Tom)

Rotation order:

  • U6 - Eggs in the basket - Left to right drags/eliminations - sharks and fishes
  • U7 - Sharks and fishes - eggs in the basket - left to right drags/eliminations
  • U8 - Left to right drags - sharks and fishes - eggs in the basket

General key points:

  • Low body position (toilet position)
  • Left hand at top (check grip with v pointing down the back shaft of the stick)
  • Left hand turns the stick and is tight.
  • Right hand half way down by end of grip (finger pointing down the back shaft of the stick)
  • Right hand lose and lets the stick spin
  • Stick in contact with the ball or at least close too as much as possible (like glue)
  • Carry the ball outside right foot at 2 o'clock on the clockface

Eggs in the basket

4 teams with the aim to have the most balls in their teams areas as possible when all the balls have been raided.

One at a time players are able to leave their area to get a ball and bring it back to their area. Then the next player goes. The winning team is decided by having the most balls at the end.

Rules - no tackling

Progression 1- no stealing

Progression 2- can steal from other teams bases

Progression 3- different coloured balls equal more points
