Description

Part 1. Technique practice

  • 1/2 field with 2nd goal at half way. 
  • 5 v 3 going to goal at end 
  • 5 v 3 going to goal at half way. 
  • Red team have player on each sideline delivering alternate crosses (unopposed) into goalmouth where there are 3 Red attackers trying to finish on goal v 2 Blue defenders & GK.
  • Blue team attack goal at half way with same setup 5 blue V 3 = Red. 
  • Try to deliver crosses into dangerous area where your attackers can meet/receive the ball. 
  • Try to bend your cross either right to left or left to right.

Part 2. Practice in game setting

  • 7 v 7 (inc 2 x GK's) on 1/2 field + 2 bouncers/crossers on sides (bp 9v7) full size goals 1 on half way.
  • Play goes end to end with no stops, bouncers play with team in. BP & can cross ball anytime. 
  • Goals must be scored from crosses from any player (inc bouncers) or within 3 touches of a cross being delivered. 
  • Rotate bouncers in & out every few minutes.
  • Coaching points
  • if curving/bending the ball right to left strike through the ball on the right side of centre.
  • if curving/bending the ball left to right strike through the ball on the left side of centre.
  • follow through to gain maximum ball contact & impart spin, try variations on your follow through (direct or draw your leg across your body for instance) & see how this affects the delivery outcome.

  • attacking ball at an angle will add body rotation through your delivery, change the angle to experiment,

    hit under the ball slightly if you wish to gain elevation.

  • A ball hit in the air will usually curve more as it slows down.
  • Run with the ball & try to put a curve on the ball as you travel.
  • Practice planting your standing foot at different angles & distances to the ball, & see how it affects the strike & spin off the ball.
  • Practice contacting the ball with different parts of the foot when you strike it & see how this affects your delivery.
