DEFENDING ZONAL DEFENDING Defensive Shape + Communication
Defensive Shape and Communication
Organization of Practice
-Teams of 4, restricted to their horizontal zones.
-Team in middle looking to deny split passes betweendefenders.
-Teams in possession work the ball side to side and passthrough the middle team (under knee height) to the oppositeteam.
-1 point if they successfully get the ball through.
Coaching Points:
-Moving as a unit (pressure, cover, balance) and remaincompact
-Distances between players, players need to be compactenough to stop passes being played between them, but alsonot too close that it is easy for the opposition to play aroundthem.
-Angle of approach, attempt to block off passing lines andmake play predictable for supporting teammates.
Progression:
2 small goals on each end
2 horizontal zones
2 attackers on each end by the goals
Aim is to work on recovery when defensive team gets split

4V2 WIN THREE
DEFENDING 4V2 WIN THREE
Four attacking players play against 2 defending players. If the defenders win three balls they are out as a team and two new defenders rotate to be the defending team. A additional win will be needed (up to three) every time the attacking team splits them with a pass
Example: Defending team has won two balls. They get split, meaning they now need to win two more balls instead of one.
