2 teams. Each team has their own area in which they keep possession by passing the ball around.

The other team can send one player across to try and win the ball for their side. If they manage to win possession the roles reverse and the other team passes the ball inside their own area.

The winning team is the first team to put 10 passes together without losing the ball.

Coaching Points

The aim of this drill is for players to practice winning back and keeping possession!

With more advanced players, allow 2 players in to the opposition's area to try and win back possession for their team.

Set up a playing area, divided into three equal sized playing areas. Players cannot enter another zone.

To begin with play 6 attackers (3 in both ends) v 1 defender in the middle.

The aim for the attackers is to use good passing movement to create space for the pass into the opposite zone.

Coaching Points

Players cannot dribble with the ball, all movement must be made off the ball.

The defending player can close down the attackers right down to the line (they cannot cross this line though).

The size of the zones can be adjusted to make this drill easier/harder.

The coach can introduce a two touch rule to make things harder for the attackers.

Coach can add another defender into the middle zone.

One group focuses on right foot shooting, the other on left foot. Change groups regularly.

#1 passes to #2 and runs to apply pressure; #2 moves the ball with the first touch to prepare for a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

#1 then joins the shooting line (behind #6); #2 fetches the ball and joins the serving line (behind #5). The same pattern takes place in the left foot group simultaneously.

The angle/distance from #1 to #2 is manipulated by the coach to ensure #2 can shoot with the second touch without being tackled and without having to beat #1.
