Technical & Tactical practice - Breaking the lines (20 mins)

Technical Practice- Breaking the lines(in possession) 20minutes long.

Traditional (Tech/Skill/SSG)

Key Coaching messages - Technical & Tactical information (The mechanics of moving into space receiving the ball and breaking a line with the pass. Tactical information of when to break lines)

  • Players will be split into two teams, two players from each team in a zone. 12 players in total, 4 in each zone all together.
  • Aim of the game is to get the ball played through every channel and back to get a goal.
  • The middle zone players are key to this success as the ball has to be passed through every channel.
  • Movement of the every player is important, how can the players position themselves to break a line and play forward.
  • The passing and receiving which took place in the skilled based session will be reiterated in this.

Conditions and progressions:

  • Limit touches in the middle zone, to two touches, limits time spent on the ball to turn and play forward.
  •  Progresses to players being allowed to move into all zones.

Organisation

  • 50 yards by 30 yards width.
  • Rectangled shape box outlined with cones.
  • Middle zone, use flats to highlight the zone.
  • 2 lots of bibs. 6 for one team and 6 for the other.
  • Balls around the outside of the box incase ball gets out of play, new one in quick. Play from coach.

SSG (30 mins)

SSG

Traditional (Tech/Skill/SSG)

Key Coaching messages - Reiterating messages from the technical, tactical and skilled session.

  • SSG with no conditions, middle zone is still sectioned out, encourages players to break lines whether that's with touches or with passes.
  • Players can go anywhere.
  • Work on movements between units to break lines.
  • Breaking lines helps cut the opposition out of the game to then create overloads.
  • What to do when a line is broke? How can we play forward and find good options? How can players on your team be an option? Depth, width and height.
  • Encourage the opposition to defend centrally see how the focus team can now break down the opposition.

Organisation

  • Can keep organisation of pitch from the Technical & Tactical session.
  • Add two keepers to the SSG.
  • Balls in either goals, ready to keep flow of the SSG going.
