Running With The Ball Technique (20 mins)

Equipment for session

16 balls

cones

3 sets of bibs

First Aid kit

SetUp

30x40 field with 4x4 center box

Organization

Players on the ball must dribble through the box in the middle and change with playes a player on the outside. Outside player accelerates away. Exchange ball using a takeover or pull back. Use 3-4 balls.

Progressions

1) Must do a skill or take X number of small touches in the box before dribbling accelerating to the outside.

2) Player on the ball passes to outside player once through the box

Coaching Points

High tempo at all times. Accelerating with the ball using a big first touch. Dribbling using laces.

Dribbling Boxes Game Skill (20 mins)

SetUp

25x25 Area - 5 Boxes 3x3

Organization

Starting with 4 corners boxes, players must get from box (planet) to box to score a point. 3 Players start as defenders. Attackers are safe in each box. (*Must be moving taking little touches in the boxes not standing still). As soon as they see an opening they must dribble at speed to a new box.

Progressions

1) Can only score a point from two boxes of the same color - eg, blue to blue.

2) Add red box in the middle and a 4th defender in the box. Players can now score an extra point if dribble through red box.

Coaching Points

- Dribble with head up - awareness.

- Look to attack space off the dribble.

- Accelerating with the ball using a big first touch.

- Dribbling using laces.

- Knowing when to shield and keep the ball close under pressure.

Dribbling Game skill (20 mins)

SetUp

30x40 field with 4 boxes

Organization

Game is played 2v1 in each box. 8 white players have a ball. The defenders must try to win the ball from the attackers. To score the attacking players must dribble to a different box. However, there cannot be more than two attackers in each box. Therefore, other attackers must be aware and trade places.

Progressions

Change defenders after a set period.

Coaching Points

Dribble with head up - awareness. Look to attack space off the dribble. Accelerating with the ball using a big first touch. Dribbling using laces. Knowing when to shield and keep the ball close under pressure.

4 attacking zones

1 central zone

Attackers move the ball around the area to retain possession and RWTB into an adjacent zone to score a point.

1 Def allowed into the zone/s from the center at once- if Def regain they try to play back into the center to score.

RTWB SSG (30 mins)

Whole: SSG if players manage to run the ball through the gates and score then it counts as an extra goal, but players are encouraged to RWTB at the right time and teams to score as in a normal game.
