4-2-3-1 (1)

4-2-3-1 FEATURES

  • CBs play at the border of the middle and half space
  • Triangle midfield: 6 (defensive mid), 8 (center/box-to-box mid), 10 (attacking mid)
  • The 6 and 8 start in front of the CBs almost like a double 6 (DM) but 1 shifts central while the other roams between half spaces in a more advanced position to connect the 6 to the 10.
  • The 10 starts in the central channel
  • Wingers start wide but should be willing to move into the half space to play closer to the striker so he is not isolated
  • Outside Back on the side with the ball should push up. If the Winger tucks into the half space the outside back overlaps. If the Winger goes wide the Outside Back inverts and moves into the half space. In other case the 10 should adapt and potentially move into the opposite half space for spacing.
  • When the 1 Outside Back pushes up the remaining 3 defenders slide over to form a back 3 in the half spaces and middle channel
  • If both Outside Backs push up the 6 drops back to form a back 3 with the CBs but in a slightly advanced position.
  • The 9 can drop back and switch with the 10
  • At times the striker can act as a false 9, dropping back to provide hold up play/receive back to goal, and turn to play it to the 7/11.
