Possession Game

Method: Possession - Focus on Defending

Both teams are playing with their men on either end. When they win the ball back they must try switch the play over and back to score a point for their team. The opposite team must press the ball high up and stop them from switching play.

Coaching Points:

1. T2D when the ball is lost. Who presses the first ball, where your first run is too.

2. Closest man presses the ball with intensity forcing them back.

3. They must be supported from behind once they press.

4. Distance of when to press, if too far away don't press on your own.

5. Communication is key to that.

6. Win the ball back.

7. Transition to attack

9v9 Phase Of Play

Method: 9v9 Phase of Play

Coach the blue team to stop the reds from scoring into the goals. I have a keeper for the blue team to get them used to communicating with the players in front of them. He can be used as a bounce pass for the blue team

Coaching Points:

The Press

  • The striker pushes to one side inviting the ball to a cb.
  • From there the no.10 releases themselves when the ball is played to press the ball.
  • He runs at an angle inviting the ball to one side, while also trying to block the pass back where it came from.
  • It must be done with high intensity.
Support
  • The winger on the side of the ball must be near the full back.
  • The midfielders must shift across and be close to the opposition midfield players.
  • The 2 cb's have to be brave and engage the attacking midfield player if he gets the ball.
  • The opposite winger must tuck around and leave the full back on the far side.
Communication
  • All players must communicate with each other.

Transition
  • When the ball is won back it is important to retain possession and try score.
  • We should have players in forward positions from the high press
