Arrival activity - Pass and Move

SETUP

Cones at both sides

1 player per cone

Play in pairs

1 player on each cone

INSTRUCTION

Player A passes the ball to player B then runs to the other side

Player B receoves the ball and dribbles to the other side, perform a skill, then repeat

COACHING POINTS

Key techniqueaspects

  • Non-kicking foot close to the ball, pointing towards the target
  • Head still and over the ball
  • Kick with inside of foot, following through on line of target
  • Keep ball low, striking through middle of the ball

Key technicalaspects:

  • Picture the target
  • Accuracy, weight and timing of pass (preferably to safe side of receiver)
  • Awareness of where to pass if the recipient is moving (i.e., ahead of the player, rather than ‘at’ the player)
  • Movement after the pass
RWB

Keytechnique aspects:

  • The knee of the dribbling leg is bent and the toes are pointed downwards and slightly inwards, so that the front of the foot comes into contact with the ball.
  • Contact with the ball is made with the laces of the shoe
  • The knee should be over the ball when contact is made
  • As contact is made with the ball, pushing the ball in front of the dribbling foot
  • Short steps are used, and the ball stays in front of the torso at all times
  • To stop, press down on the top of the ball with the bottom of the foot (studs)

Keytechnical aspects:

  • Get in line with the pass
  • Positive first touch out of feet
  • Use laces (not side of foot)
  • Head up
  • Cover ground quickly i.e. long strides

Passing and move

SETUP

Create a square for the players to be in

Half the players have a ball - or or if odd number the higher number (eg. 4 with a ball - 3 without)

INSTRUCTIONS

Players must run around the area, with or without the ball.

The players without the ball need to create passing lines and talk to players

Players with the ball must pass the ball as quickly as possible then run into space to receive again

COACHING POINTS

Players with out a ball must run into space and create passing lines

Talking is important, when the passing line is made talk to the player with the ball

When they've made the pass, move quickly into space to receive the ball again

PROGRESSION

- Play 5 times for 2 mins, the player who makes the most 'accurate passes' is the winner or the 2 min session

- Move into tig - one player has to tig players, but can only tig players without a ball. Players with the balls have to try and support players without a ball and pass the ball to them so they can't be tigged
