Triangle Passing Pattern

Organization: Set up an equal sided triangle between 6-15 yards in length. Position 1 player on 2 points of the triangle and a starting location for all others. Use 5-6 players per triangle (set-up multiple triangles).  Balls at starting location. 

Game Rules: Play begins with Player 1 taking a touch and delivering a pass into Player 2 who receives and plays a pass to Player 3. Players 1 and 2 follow their pass. Player 3 receives and dribble drives to the starting point for the next player in line to continue the sequence. 

Modification/Challenge: The coach should ensure directions are switched so that players can practice right and left-foot receiving/passing. A 2nd ball should be added to the activity to encourage speed of play. At the first point, a lay-off into give n go can be executed. At the 2nd point, a thru ball can be played. End with a relay race where different triangles compete to execute the passing pattern 4 times (ball travels around 4 times). First team down wins. 

Coaching Points: Active receiving position to have a directional first touch that sets up a quality pass played in to the front foot. Technical points of passing. Timing and angles of give-n-go runs to receive pass into space. Explosive dribbling for speed.
