3v3 or 4v4 (20 mins)

OBJECTIVE: Move the ball forward toward the opponent’s goal. Learn the rules of futsal.

PLAYER ACTIONS: Pass or dribble forward

ORGANIZATION: In a 20W x 30L field and a small goal on each end line, play a 3v3 or 4v4 game, no goal keepers. Play 2 equal halves with a halftime. Coach can play 3 periods or 4 quarters with short breaks between if needed. All FIFA & locallaws/rules apply. If the ball leaves the field, the coach should roll another ball onto the field to keep theflow of the game going. Coach should substitute all extra players every 3-5 minutes.

KEY WORDS: Go for it, go to goal, find your teammate

GUIDED QUESTIONS: Who should determine whether to dribble, pass or shoot? How can you showme that you have learned something new today?

ANSWERS: We (the players) should. (the players must be allowed to make their own decision) We arekeeping the ball in play longer. We are dribbling toward the goal. We are scoring goals.

Note: Coaches should provide limited instruction; only as needed. Observe the players to determine ifthey can use the skills or make the decisions which were encouraged earlier in the session.

3v3 Warm-up (30 mins)

3v3 - Score outside 8 yard area = 2 points, score inside 8 area = 1 point

Rules - All 6 players play within the middle zone except when they dribble or receive a pass to score in the final zone or when the build up starts after goal.  Every time the ball goes out it starts at the cone between the goals with an attacking player taking the ball in. KEEP SCORE for mini game series - 3-5 min X 3 games

OBJECTIVE: To create chances and score goals

PLAYER ACTIONS: Shoot, Pass/dribble forward, Spread out and Create 2v1 or 1v1

KEY WORDS: Get open, Shoot, Pass, Take opponents.

GUIDED QUESTIONS: 1. How can you get open? 2. What should you do if confronted by a defender? 3. What should you do if you find an opening?

ANSWERS: 1. Spread out by getting away from the defender. 2. Dribble at him, either take him on or pass the ball. 3. We should shoot the ball, pass forward or dribble forward.

Note - First break: Coach asks questions; players do not answer but play to discover them. Second break: Coach asks questions and players share the answers.

3v3 (2v2 + GK) - Score, score, score (30 mins)

3v3 - Rotate GK + 1 Sub per team 

Rules - every time a goal is scored sub a new player. Shoot from own half = 2 points, score from opponent half = 1 point, Ball out - always starts with GK and defending team must have 1 player in each half to start - if attacking team advances they can change - NOTE : Coaches must remind defending team to each start in a half.

Score & Stay (25 mins)

Score & Stay - each player gets a partner from the other team. Defender gives a quality pass to attacker and closes down. Attacking player receives in 1 touch and scores on 2nd touch. If Defender wins the ball they can score on their 2nd touch in a small goal. GK makes a save can throw or kick into small goal.  The attacker can defend and deny them the chance.  Note : make sure to switch sides to ensure players are using both feet. KEEP SCORE for mini game series - 2-3 min X 5 games

A) 2 touch

B) 1 touch

C) can dribble

D) can let it go into a 1v2 game for 10-15 seconds

Final Game - 3v3 + GK (25 mins)

Cross & Score - 3v2  - Attacker takes a few touches, crosses to 1 of 2 teammates. Defender and GK prevent them from scoring.  If Defender wins the ball they can score on their 2nd touch in a small goal. GK makes a save can throw or kick into small goal.  The attacker can defend and deny them the chance.  Note : make sure to switch sides to ensure players are using both feet. KEEP SCORE for mini game series - 2-3 min X 5 games & make sure to ROTATE

 Option : can let it go into a 2v2 game for 10-15 seconds (Crosser stays wide)
