1v1 Passing (15 mins)

Organisation:

  • Players start opposite each other. 
  • On coaches command, the attacking player looks to pass to his teammate on the opposite side. 
  • If the defender wins the ball or the ball goes out of play, the opposite team become the attackers.
Modify:
  • Modify the distance depending on age/ability.
Attacking Key Points:

  • Soft touches
  • Big touches to get away from defender

  • Player with head up
  • Change of speed & direction to create space.
Defending:

  • 'High to low' & 'Fast to slow' as you approach the ball
  • 'Surfer' pose, side on, bent knees
  • Eyes on the ball

Passing & Receiving

Organisation:

  • 9 players - 3 groups of 3 players
  • 2 players from each team start on the outside as shown. The other players starts in a smaller central area as shown. 
  • The inside player looks to receive off the outside teammate in possession before playing to the other teammate.
  • Players on the outside are always moving to keep the central players scanning constantly.

Modify:

  • 12 players - 4 groups of 3

Attacking KP's:

  • Play with head up
  • Body shape - open
  • Receiving on back foot
Questions:
  • What should we do before we call for the ball?
  • What other information can we tell our teammate?

2v2 Switching Play SSG (10 mins)

Organisation:

  • 2v2 small-sided game played with 2 jokers who play with the attacking team at all times.
  • Scoring zones are marked, goals cannot be scored from outside these zones.
  • Rotate jokers regularly.

Switching Play - 4 Goal Game

Organisation:

  • Two green neutral players are positioned at either side of the main playing zone.
  • Neutral players will work with the team in possession. All players are restricted to their zones.
  • The team in possession will attempt to switch the point of attack to a teammate in either wide zone who will then attempt to score if possible. 
  • Players in the wide zones will attempt to score in either of the two target goals located at either end of their zone.
