Numbers Rondo (10 mins)
Organization:
-40x25 grids
-split teams evenly (7v7 or 8v8)
-cones/balls/pinnies
Instructions:
Two equal size areas, one in which the red team will start a rondo, and one in which the blue team will start a rondo. All players are numbered 1-7 on their team. The coach will then shout two numbers out, and the corresponding players from each team will run over into the other teams area and try to dispossess them. The team that keeps possession of the ball from the defenders for longest wins a point. Sending 2 players in gets them using team work and communication to intercept passes. which is a crucial part of the main session topic. The competition element also adds in extra challenge and reinforces that team work.
Conditions:
As soon as a defending player gets a touch, the ball is dead.
If the ball leaves the area, it is dead.
Progression:
Call 3 numbers, to increase the amount of defenders involved, which gets it closer to them working as a midfield unit, instead of just as a pair, leading more into the main part of the session.
