Description

1. Warm-Up (10 minutes)

  • Activity: Players jog around the field with a ball at their feet, focusing on light touches and control.
  • Purpose: To get players physically warm and start engaging with the ball in a low-pressure environment.

2. Basic Dribbling Drills (15 minutes)

  • Activity: Set up a series of cones in straight lines, about 3 feet apart. Players dribble through the cones using both feet and varying parts of the foot (inside, outside, and soles).
  • Purpose: To develop close ball control, improve agility and coordination.

3. Dribbling with Direction Change (15 minutes)

  • Activity: Players dribble through a zigzag course of cones, focusing on quick direction changes while maintaining control of the ball.
  • Purpose: To enhance players’ ability to change directions quickly without losing speed or control of the ball.

4. 1v1 Dribbling to Goal (20 minutes)

  • Animation Slide
    • Setup: Players are divided into pairs, with each pair having one attacker and one defender. The attacker starts with the ball at about 20 yards from a small goal, with the defender starting close by.
    • Activity: On the coach's whistle, the attacker tries to dribble past the defender and score in the small goal. After each attempt, players switch roles.
    • Purpose: To apply dribbling skills in a competitive setting, encouraging attackers to use speed, feints, and direction changes to beat defenders.

5. Small-Sided Game (20 minutes)

  • Activity: Play a small-sided game (4v4 or 5v5) on a reduced-size field. Encourage players to utilize dribbling skills to create scoring opportunities.
  • Purpose: To transfer the dribbling skills practiced into a game-like scenario, emphasizing the use of dribbling to navigate tight spaces and maintain possession under pressure.

6. Cool Down (10 minutes)

  • Activity: Light jogging and dynamic stretching focusing on legs and lower back.
  • Purpose: To reduce muscle stiffness and soreness, promoting recovery and reflecting on the session to discuss what was learned and what can be improved.

Additional Notes:

  • Ensure each player has ample turns in both attacking and defending roles during drills.
  • Provide specific, positive feedback throughout the session, especially highlighting successful application of techniques in complex scenarios.
  • Adjust the difficulty and intensity of drills according to the players' responses and fatigue levels.
