Warm-up with Stretching (5 mins)
Organization: Center circle (or 10 yard radius circle) 12 cones, 12 balls, randomly placed inside circle. Half the team on the outside of circle, half inside.
Activity: 1min. Inside players follow below progressions through an active warm-up. Outside players will do dynamic stretching per coaches direction-ie: high knees left, open gate right etc. After one minute, switch, outside players in and vice-versa.
Variations: Progression 1: 1min. Inside players must dribble around the circle without hitting cones and other players. Outside players will do dynamic stretching per coaches direction-ie: high knees left, open gate right etc. After one minute, switch, outside players in and vice-versa.
Progression 2: 1min. Inside players must dribble around and make a quick change of direction at each cone. Outside players will do dynamic stretching per coaches direction-ie: high knees left, open gate right etc. After one minute, switch, outside players in and vice-versa.
Progression 3: 1min. Inside players do toe taps and inside feet control at coaches direction. Outside players will do dynamic stretching per coaches direction-ie: high knees left, open gate right etc. After one minute, switch, outside players in and vice-versa.
Progression 4: 1min. Inside players must touch a cone with their hand, then both feet together, jump over a ball. See who can get the most jumps in the minute. Outside players will do dynamic stretching per coaches direction-ie: high knees left, open gate right etc. After one minute, switch, outside players in and vice-versa. This will get them tired quick, make sure legs are properly warmed up by the time they get to this progression.
Coaching Points: Remind players to properly warm-up to prevent injury. It is an important step for their health and should be treated as such. Inside players should keep ball close to body when dribbling, touching the ball with each step. Eyes should be up, not on their feet.
