Fundamental passing pattern. Although it may be well known, there is a lot here in this drill for player's to refine. First of all, playing the ball to space accurately. Of course, off-the-ball movements based on a visual cue is something that always exercises the soccer brain.

Basic Pattern (10 mins)
Coaching points: Helping players understand the pattern, I find the mantra: "Middle plays wing...become wing" is a good field command to the player with the ball.
Coaching points: Pass to space. As players will discover, this is more challenging than one expects. The passer has to account for the receiver's position, speed, and angle of run. Playing the ball behind the receiver breaks the pattern/weave.
If the broken pass is far from recoverable, then the group discontinues, and loses its opportunity to shoot on goal.
Coaching point: The passing player follows his/her pass, but unlike a tight "overlap" (which the diagram above may suggest), the passing player performs a crescent run that
a) covers the space left by the receiver and
b) opens the player's hips, slightly angling the body toward the ball and
c) follows the advancement of the ball with a fairly square positioning.
Players may finish in any variety they choose, but with a goalie, weave players should be aware of rebound from the goalie, and seek to finish.
