Progression on Passing Pattern 1 Build up trap. Now added an attacking movement off of the switch of play and looking at forward runs from midfield to support the switch of play. Unopposed practice at first then add some pressers into the Pattern game. Then into a constrained game attacking three goals main one centrally and two wide goals to encourage switches and wide play

Method: Passing Pattern 2 Build up trap with attack - once the GK picks a side to distribute the CB DM and CM on that side tilt to the ball, We make 4-5 passes and set to the keeper and switch sides. Once switched CM, DM and opposite CM push forward to receive from opposite FB.
Coaching Points: Players react to where the GK passes, create a mini rondo on that side of the pitch, Good set to GK, type of pass?? Opposite player(FB) might drop to enable an easier pass for the GK. DM movement is key here to dominate the space. Player in possession must have at least two options at al times. Progressions: Add a defender in each square, Add a Defender to put pressure on CB's and GK. Movement of midfielders as the switch happens, Movement by opposite CM into space for opposite FB to pass. Add three strikers and 5 defenders in the top half and play 6v5 from the switch

Method: 8v8. Red team are given bonus points or scoring in any goal after a switch. Blue team are tasked with defending main goal but also wide goals, If they press successfully and score, 2 points. This is to encourage switching of play and to afford the Red team many opportunities to switch play using the traps we have worked on in previous sessions.
Coaching Points: Blue team orientated to tilt when the ball is not central and to press aggressively from the front. Red team is orientated to build up from the back and is encouraged to switch play by getting 2 points if they score from a switch in play. Progressions - Add another player to blue as a sweeper to make it more difficult to score in the wide goals. If the game is one-sided reset the score and re-evaluate the points awarding to keep both teams motivated.

Method: 8 players outside play with possession with 4v4 in the middle. Cant play outside to outside. Ball must come back into the square from an outside player. Teams score by switching play from one square to the next and back again.
Coaching Points: When do we switch play from one square to the next. Can we set the trap to switch? What are our triggers for switching? Can we focus attention on what's happening around us? What does our shape look like? Team out of possession - how will we mark the players in the middle? Can we cut out the switch?
