1v1 Def to Goal

- Attacking Players at the top of the grids and defending players, in red, at the bottom.

- There will be two games going on at the same time.

- Each 1v1 action should last no longer than 6 seconds and should be performed at maximum intensity

The exercise begins with a pass to the attacking player, at this time the defending player needs to run out and pressure the attacker to try to keep them away from the goal. If they can win the ball they will be able to go to goal.

Defenders need to focus on a positive body shape where they can try to force the attacker backwards to push them away from the goal.

Defenders need to focus on applying pressure, but slowing their momentum to make sure that they can keep the attacker in front of them.

1v1 Def to Endzone

This is a variation of the 1v1 defending exercise but instead of there being the goals there is an endzone. This exercise forces the defender to give more intense pressure and is more difficult as there is more space that they need to defend. The ultimate goal in this exercise is to force the attacker out of bounds.

This is another variation of the 1v1 exercise, but now the players behind the first defender must identify which way to have the defender pressure and try to force the attacking player.

1v1 Defending Game 6v6

Any game with even numbers will allow for opportunities to improve on pressure and 1v1 defending.

This activity is a game to multiple goals. This will create multiple opportunities for 1v1 defending across the field and success will be measured by level of pressure accross the field.

The goals are made using poles/cones and are spread about an appropriate sized area. These goals may be configured however and may change throughout the game.

The attacking team gets a point for the number of times that they can dribble through one of the goals. I reccomend that there be 1 goal for every 3 people in the game. This game is set for 12 players, so there are 4 goals. To increase the difficulty, more goals may be added. This space for 12 players is 25 yards long by 20 yards wide

4 goal game, emphasize 1v1 defending

Any game to even numbers in large space will create 1v1s.

This exercise above is to one goal but it could easily be done to 2 goals.

Making the game directional makes the exercise more like the real game and can bring out the important aspects of the activity.
