Oakville Soccer Club U8 Boys Training Session

Technical: Dribbling/running with the ball 

Tactical: Space Creation / width & Depth 

Physical: Agility/Balance/coordination 

Social/Emotional: Listening/interaction

Psychological: fun, confidence, feeling safe

Objective : Create plenty of opportunities for players in 1v1 situations to practice their moves and dribbling skills. To find openings and dribble/run with the ball.

Arrival Activity (10 mins)

Arrival Activity: small-sided games:    4 v 4 5v5   10min 

Organization: 18W x 25L Bow nets, cones, bibs, balls

Objective: To dribble past opponents , create chances, score goals

Procedure: As players arrive they play and organize their teams 

Coaching Question: When is a good time to pass ? when is a good time to dribble?

If you have space can you run with the ball ?

1v1 (10 mins)

1v1 Dribbling/running with the ball -12:2 work/rest

 

Organization: 15x 20 field size 4 gates per game (5m)

 (Adjust to players needs/challenges) 12/14 players 4 teams of 3/4 players per team 

 

Equipment: cones, balls, bibs 

 

 

Procedure:  Players take turns at serving  into the opposite team . The 

Attackers receives the ball from the server, as the ball is in motion  the opponent can enter the pitch and look to close down the attacker. The player with the ball looks to dribble through either of the opponents gates.

The attacker looks too attack the defender with speed, beat the defender by doing a move/changing speed/direction to get through an open gate.

If the defender wins the ball they become the attacker and look to score through the opposite gates. passing through a gate equals 1 points dribbling through equals 3 points. 

1) Allow players to decide on how many points an action is worth.

 2)Allow players to pick their team name 

Each Team gets to serve and be the attacker after 5/6 min rotate teams to the opposite side so they play a new team. 

 

Objective: To dribble past opponents and get through a gate as quick as possible 

 

 

Coaching points: attack the ball, 1st touch into space, get in to the opponents half as quickly as possible (running with the ball), attack the defender with speed, look to keep the ball close change speed/direction do a move.(dribbling)

 

 

Progression: make it a 2 v 2 and insist on a pass before you can score

End zone Game (15 mins)

End Zone Game: 12-15min 12:3 work/rest   4v4 ,5 V 5 

Objective: end zone game forces  players to dribble the ball and attack the opposition using close control, and changes of speed and direction. 

Set Up:  30mx25m with 6m end zones, bibs, cones, balls

Procedure: Each team is given an end zone to defend and an end zone to attack. The team in possession must try to dribble the ball into the opposition’s end zone.

Rules/Constraints

  • A goal is scored when a player dribbles past a defender and into the opposition’s end zone
  • After a goal is scored, the opposing team starts with ball from inside its end zone.
  • (other team must back up to retreat line ). If the ball goes off the side of the pitch the game is restarted with a grounded pass from where the ball left the pitch

Progression:

Passing game

Players now score goals by making a pass to a player running into the end zone. This rule encourages creative play through passing and forward runs off the ball.

The player in possession must make a pass into the end zone as the player runs to receive the ball. The running player must not arrive in the end zone before the ball. large space - well encourage individuals to drive into space running with the ball. Tighter space players may look to dribble and take players on (dribbling)

Allow players to pick their team name, If the players passes to a teammate v's dribbling in how many points is each action worth.

Objective:  Where and When do we want to dribble

 (part of the pitch )

To pass or dribble past opponents and create chances 

Key words: openings/space  look to attack it , dribble, change speed/direction

1 v1 moves (feint, step over scissors)

Guided Questions:1) How do we create an opening?

 2) what do we do if we see an opening? 

Answers:  1) make the opponent move , create  width & Depth

2) pass or dribble through it
